Renault Twingo Electric Cars Urban
The new Renault electric Twingo will arrive in 2026 for less than 20 thousand euros
Its price and its low energy consumption will be the weapons of the new electric Twingo to compete in a market expected to be crowded with rivals from the competition within the next two years
The French manufacturer has just presented at an event the first prototype of the future new generation of the electric Twingo, which should reach the market in 2026. According to the company, this model will be the most affordable in the brand’s range, with a base price that will be set below 20 thousand euros. There will also be the possibility of having this vehicle for a monthly cost of around 100 euros.
This new urban electric Renault will, on the other hand, be one of the most efficient in the entire market, with an energy consumption that, according to the manufacturer, will be around 10 kWh per 100 km driven.

For now, the French manufacturer has not revealed more details about its technical specifications, but everything suggests that the new electric Twingo will be based on the brand’s CMF-BEV platform, recently renamed AmpR Small. It will also share architecture with the Renault 5 and the Renault 4, two other electric urban models that will reach the market in 2024 and 2025, positioned one step above within the Renault electric model range.
Renault does not back down in the face of the Chinese threat
According to the current Chief Executive Officer of the Renault Group, Luca de Meo, with the new electric Twingo the company aims to respond to the arrival on the market of low-priced electric urban models from Chinese manufacturers. Renault is determined to demonstrate that it is capable of marketing models in this segment as quickly as the Chinese and at a price just as attractive, if not more so.
The head of Renault has also referred to the new generation of the Twingo as the European Kei Car, asserting that there is no sense in using vehicles weighing more than two tonnes, which also take up a lot of space, to transport a single person from one point to another in the city. And the truth is that he is not wrong. According to de Meo, the new Twingo is perfectly suited to the purpose for which it was developed.

Positioned in the A-segment, the new generation of the Twingo will have to compete with rivals from other brands such as the Volkswagen ID.1, the Citroën e-C3, or perhaps even the long-awaited affordable electric model from Tesla. Furthermore, of course, there is the wide selection of models from Chinese manufacturers expected to arrive on the European market in the coming years, such as the BYD Seagull.
Hard not to like it
Finally, it is worth noting that, as far as its design is concerned, there is no doubt that it is inspired by the classic Twingo, though giving it a much more modern and youthful look. The nod to the manufacturer’s past stands out, replacing the three ventilation grilles on the bonnet of the original model with three external indicators of the battery level.
For now, we will have to remain eager, however, to find out whether something similar happens with the interior design of the vehicle, since Renault has not shown it to us.
