The Ministry of Transport, responsible for the roads, is testing new signage to warn drivers that they must reduce their speed.

Road safety is important to the Ministry of Transport and is constantly evolving. Roads have changed a great deal over the years, and the institution has worked to turn each of these routes into safe spaces. One of the latest measures has been the introduction of road markings on the asphalt, which has just been trialled in the town of Nava de Roa, in the province of Burgos.

On the through-road that crosses the town, this ministry has painted new road markings, which are in a trial period and give the impression that the road narrows, prompting the driver to reduce speed. These markings create the sensation that the road is narrower and make the driver lift off the accelerator. It is not signage that carries a penalty, but it helps the driver become aware that there is a stretch where the speed limit is lower.

These markings will be placed at the entrances to urban areas on conventional roads, on the through-roads. In addition to the vertical speed limit sign, these road markings will warn the driver that they must slow down. They have been painted 30 metres before the danger zone where the vehicle must enter at a lower speed, so that the driver can reduce speed to the permitted limit. In the case of the town of Burgos, they have been placed at the entrance to the urban area, but another experimental signal has also been used. It has been placed before a pedestrian crossing, to enhance the visibility of the crossing and of pedestrians.

This consists of a broken edge line, which also alerts the driver and warns of the presence of the pedestrian crossing. For the time being, this is a trial, just as with the green lines that have been painted on some roads in Castilla y León, which give the sensation of narrowing. If the results are good, perhaps
