The next generation of Audi cars will be inspired by the goddess Artemis

Audi’s Artemis project is expected to deliver, in the short-to-medium term, mobility solutions for real life: cars that represent a new stage

Known in Greek mythology as Artemis or Artemisa, she was one of the goddesses. The daughter of Zeus and Leto and sister of Apollo, this deity was associated with wild animals, the fertility of the soil and of humans, and virginity, and she was also said to be able to ease the pain of women who turned to her.

Inspired by this, the new CEO of Audi, Markus Duesmann, has unveiled what will be a new line of work for the brand that he leads, one that appears designed to bring about a new way of conceiving the automobile through the Artemis project.

The roadmap’s main goal is to speed up and shorten the time it takes to manufacture a car, from its conception to its delivery to the new user.

The head of this project is Axel Hitzinger, formerly responsible for autonomous driving systems and also for the motorsport division, and he now has the backing and synergies of the Volkswagen Group, the consortium within which Audi sits.

The main lines of Artemis

Be that as it may, based on information from Audi’s European and North American headquarters, both in Ingolstadt and across the Atlantic on the west coast of the United States, Duesmann has set Hitzinger the goal of creating a car for real life of tomorrow as soon as possible.

The aim is simple to understand but complex because of the many dimensions it involves.

That is why the products that could reach the market from Artemis are expected, at the earliest, not before 2024, to be electric cars with high capabilities for self-managing their mobility without direct user intervention, that is, a level of autonomous driving of 4 or higher.

In addition, each car should consider and be considered in a new usage environment or a different setting, which would give each vehicle a different configuration, from its mechanics to its information and entertainment systems, including the various options for interacting with its energy replenishment.

For now, little more is known about Artemis beyond the broad outlines of what should be a new chapter for Audi and that could eventually be applied to other brands in the Group.
