The next generation of the Renault Clio will arrive with a hybrid version and level 2 autonomous driving
The 5th generation of the Renault Clio is already cooking and close to being revealed, with major new features such as hybrid technology and level 2 autonomous driving

It seems like yesterday, but it was back in 2012 that the fourth generation of the Renault Clio was unveiled at the Paris Motor Show, going on sale in the various European markets without much delay. The fourth generation was characterised by a completely different design, more modern and youthful, which gave it a less dull character than its predecessor, as well as more up-to-date equipment with new connectivity options.
After five years on the market, Renault is already thinking about the fifth generation of the Clio, a new Renault Clio that would bring significant changes to its design, adopting an image in line with the latest releases from the French brand, but with much more important developments in terms of its engine and technology. This is something that can be gathered from the words of Jean-Christophe Kugler, executive vice president of Renault, following an interview with Autocar in which he states that the next generation of the Renault Clio will bring hybrid engines and level 2 autonomous driving.

Kluger has kept the details of what that hybrid powertrain will be to himself, but everything points to it using the same hybrid technology found in the new Renault Scenic, which uses the Hybrid Assist system, consisting of an electric motor paired with a 110 CV dCi diesel engine. What is clear is that there will be no fully electric version, as that would take market share away from the Renault ZOE.
Another important part of the fifth generation of the Renault Clio is that it will adopt level 2 autonomous driving, which means we will still need to stay fully attentive to the driving and the surroundings, although the car will be able to take control of the brakes, accelerator and steering at certain moments. Very useful when, for example, we are driving through the city or stuck in a traffic jam.
Finally, the new Clio is also expected to incorporate the latest advances in technology and connectivity, as well as adopting interior materials of higher quality than the current ones. Either way, we will have to wait for its presentation to see it and learn all about its details, for which there is still no date, although it is not far-fetched to think that it will reach dealerships next year.
