The Nissan Micra is back! Do you recognise it?

The Nissan Micra returns as an electric city car and will be available to European drivers at the end of this year, with a youthful look.

City cars are disappearing, although a few models of this type still remain and some new ones keep arriving so that the segment does not die out completely. The Nissan Micra was one of those models that ended up disappearing from the Japanese brand’s range, but it has returned as an electric vehicle with a younger and more attractive image aimed at young buyers.

It is based on a familiar platform, the Renault 5 E-Tech, the renewed French classic, but its exterior has been modified to give it a different look. It looks like a Micra, it feels like a Micra and, of course, it is a Micra, although completely new and different. At the front we find round headlights, a shape that is also repeated in the rear light clusters.

These light clusters feature inserts in the body colour, and when the vehicle is locked or unlocked, the front LED lights give a small flash. As for its image, although it is compact and has a very urban look, it incorporates elements borrowed from SUVs.

There is a black cladding that reinforces that image on the wheel arches, the sills and the bumpers. The 18-inch wheels make it more attractive and give it a more striking look than we would expect on a car of these proportions. To look its best, the Micra offers a choice of 14 body colours, including a two-tone option with a black or grey roof.

Compact size, but robust

The new Nissan Micra measures just under 4 metres in length, while the wheelbase has grown to 2.54 metres. This allows it to seat five people. Inside, technology becomes essential in helping the driver move around with greater confidence.

The driver has at their disposal two 10.1-inch screens, one dedicated to the instrument cluster and the other to the infotainment system. An image of Mount Fuji placed between the front seats and a few other details set it apart from its sibling, the Renault 5 E-TECH.

The boot is not outstanding in size, but its 326 litres allow you to carry items in urban settings and on short trips.

Powertrain and batteries

In terms of technical features, we find a city car based on the AmpR Small platform (CMF-BEV). It will be sold in two versions. The first has a 90 kW electric motor, equivalent to 121 CV, paired with a 40 kWh battery. With this configuration it achieves a range of 308 kilometres.

The second version has a 110 kW motor, that is, 148 CV. In this case the battery is somewhat larger, with a capacity of 52 kWh, and the range rises to 408 kilometres. This variant can be charged at up to 100 kW, which allows it to charge from 15 to 80% in 30 minutes.

In both cases the Nissan Micra features Vehicle-to-load technology, which allows it to supply part of that energy to power external devices. In addition, a heat pump is fitted to cool and heat the battery when necessary.

The price of this new Nissan Micra is not yet known, but we know that it will reach the European market at the end of 2025. It is expected to be slightly higher than that of the Renault 5, but until it is confirmed, everything is speculation that provides no relevant information.
