The OMODA 7 is getting ever closer to its arrival, and the brand has announced that its equipment will include a remote parking system

The Chinese brand OMODA is another of those Asian manufacturers that have burst onto the scene with force, not only in the Spanish market but also across Europe. After just a few years in our market, it is no longer unusual to see its models on our roads, and obviously more and more frequently. Another model from the brand will soon arrive in our market to shake up the competition: the OMODA 7.

This upcoming hybrid SUV, which will join the brand’s ever-expanding lineup, was unveiled to the world last April at OMODA’s headquarters in Wuhu, China, and it is expected to reach the various European markets before the end of this year. There is no set date yet, but the brand is already beginning to reveal details of what the new OMODA 7 will offer, so its arrival may well be very near and could take place before the year is out.

The OMODA 7 will have the distinction of being the first vehicle from the brand to incorporate technologies that, until now, had been absent from the rest of its models, which also gives us a hint of what may come in future updates across its range. OMODA has announced that it will be the first model from the brand to feature autonomous parking, which allows the vehicle to be parked from outside with the press of a button on the key fob. This system was presented by OMODA during the User Summit in China, the International Users’ Summit of OMODA and JAECOO.

This system works through the combination of two systems. The first is the automatic parking assist system (APA), which allows the OMODA 7 to park automatically in multiple scenarios: it can park in bays, parallel, and at an angle. To achieve this, the brand had to gather a great deal of data, recording more than 1,000 possible parking scenarios in both China and the European Union. To activate it, the driver simply selects the parking space on the screen and turns on the system, which then automatically plans the trajectory needed to park in the chosen spot.

For now, this is quite similar to what many vehicles already offer, although on the OMODA 7 this system also powers the remote parking assist system (RPA). This system is designed for parking in much more difficult spots, such as extremely narrow spaces where we cannot even open the door to get out, which can be very common, especially in the city. Thanks to 12 ultrasonic radars and 4 surround-view cameras, once the driver has selected the space on the screen, they can leave the vehicle and, by pressing a specific button on the key fob from a maximum distance of six metres, the car will park itself, whether parallel, in bays, or at an angle. This manoeuvre can be repeated to get the car out, moving forward up to three metres, which is enough to open the door and get in.

Without a doubt, this kind of equipment will make the OMODA 7 one of the most technologically advanced vehicles on the market. We will see later how well it performs, and a good example of this is other gadgets, such as the 15.7-inch Star-Rail screen it will feature, along with 12 high-quality speakers that promise a “cinema experience”.
