The Opel Astra is the most reliable car, according to Dekra

The German Association for Vehicle Inspection has processed the data from its annual report, based on the technical inspections of 15 million vehicles in Germany. While in the previous report the Opel Insignia had proven to be the most reliable (and in 2009 the Opel Corsa), now another Opel has reached the top of reliability, taking first place: the Opel Astra.

The Astra achieved the best result of all the units tested in the “best individual score” category, since almost 97% of them showed no deficiencies in technical inspections. The next two vehicles, which took the bottom two spots in reliability, were the Opel Insignia and the Renault Megane.

The most common faults detected across all vehicles are electronic ones, at 19.7%. However, in terms of cost, faults in the brake discs, at 11.8%, and defects in the steering, at 9.6%, are the most significant.

The Dekra report turns out to be a good source of reliability information even if you are not German. Looking at the results for each segment, the Ford Fiesta topped the compact car segment with 95.3% reliability. In the upper-middle and executive category, the Mercedes-Benz E-Class came first with 94.8%. In sports cars, the Mazda MX-5 was the winner, while in the SUV segment the Ford Kuga was the victor.
