Opel continues developing new powertrains for its model range, with the Grandland X being the latest to receive a new 180 CV heart

The SUV segment presents itself as a group of highly versatile vehicles, combining comfort with the advantages of a crossover. This mix results in a car capable of tackling more or less demanding terrain and travelling on the road in complete comfort. Opel has sought to highlight these attributes in one of its most recent products, which is enjoying great success: the Grandland X. To this end, the German brand has added a new powertrain to the list of options, which improves both the performance and the efficiency of the SUV.

This new PureTech petrol engine is the result of the partnership between the PSA Group and Opel, and it arrives to establish itself among the top-of-the-range engines that can be fitted to the Grandland X. In this way, the German brand has managed to add a new powertrain capable of moving the Opel SUV with greater ease, which has considerable size.

It is a 1.6-litre petrol engine with direct injection, paired with a petrol particulate filter (GPF) to reduce emissions. In this way, the Opel Grandland X is capable of delivering 180 CV of power and 250 Nm of torque, available at 1,750 rpm. Thanks to variable valve lift, the variable valve timing system allows infinite adjustment of the timing and duration of valve opening to achieve the best cylinder filling and exhaust, which translates into lower consumption and much lower CO2 emissions.

Opel claims consumption figures of 7.1-7.2 l/100 km in the city, 4.9-5.0 l/100 km on the open road and 5.7-5.8 l/100 km combined. At the same time, Opel also offers an 8-speed automatic gearbox with the Grandland X, making it the only option available with this engine, which sits in a more premium range that allows customers to enjoy and reach features reserved for this variant of the German SUV.

Those who wish to fit this petrol engine in their Opel Grandland X must pair it with the Ultimate trim. With this option, the SUV includes a series of components that improve both its styling and its ride quality, as it features bi-tone 19-inch alloy wheels and silver roof rails. As for the interior, there is leather upholstery and an audio system signed by Denon.

For the time being, Opel has made no statement about the price the Grandland X will carry with this engine, but it will be revealed very soon along with other details. In this way, the German brand continues with its new wave of engines, which is gradually being introduced across its model range, as we saw recently with the Insignia and its new powertrain.
