The Range Rover Velar sets another record: it is the most stolen car in Germany

The list of the most stolen cars in Germany published by the country’s Association of Insurers shows that the Range Rover Velar is the most stolen of all.

Car thieves do not steal utility cars, which, although they can be sold easily, do not bring good profits. Thieves focus instead on high-end cars that can be resold with a good profit margin. Several countries publish lists of the most stolen vehicles each year, and in this case we are going to look at which models are the most stolen in Germany.

Colleagues at Autobild have published the list compiled by the German Insurance Association (GDV). According to this list, the top spot goes to the Range Rover Velar, a premium SUV that appeals not only to German buyers but also to car thieves. 15.5 units of this model were stolen per 1,000 insured vehicles. This leads to average compensation payments of 52,158 euros per vehicle.

The Range Rover Velar is not alone in this report, as the following cars on the list share similar characteristics. The BMW X6, with a ratio of 9 per 1,000 insured vehicles and an average cost of 45,408 euros per vehicle, takes second place. Third place goes to the Kia Stinger, with 6.7 vehicles stolen per 1,000 insured. The cost in this case is an average of 31,738 euros.

The list continues with the Range Rover, which, although it records 6.1 units per 1,000 insured, is the most expensive of all, with an average compensation cost of 60,607 euros. The Lexus NX, with 4.4 units per 1,000 insured and an average compensation of 28,718 euros per unit. The Toyota Land Cruiser ranks sixth with 4.3 units per 1,000 and a cost of 38,794 euros.

The Porsche 911 is the first sports car on the list, with 3.5 per 1,000 units and a compensation of 52,794 euros. Closing the list are the BMW X5, whose owners receive an average of 43,213 euros, and the Hyundai Santa Fe, which costs insurers an average of 35,663 euros. The figure in this case is 3.4 per 1,000 insured units.

So we can see that car thefts are carried out in order to profit from each vehicle afterwards. It is advisable to have theft insurance, because thieves know which model to steal in order to get a good return after the theft.
