The Renault 5 Prototype will become a reality in 2022
This reinterpretation of the iconic classic R5, presented by Renault itself, will become a production model next year.

Earlier this year, Renault first showed us the Renault 5 in electric form. A concept with a very charming look that is undeniably reminiscent of the legendary R5 of old and which, as we learned just yesterday, will become a production model next year.
This great news has come out of the Munich Motor Show, which is taking place these days and has also unveiled major новинки such as the Porsche Mission R, the Smart Concept #1 and the BMW I Vision.
A commemoration
That the launch of this Renault 5 Prototype will take place in 2022 is no coincidence: that very year marks 50 years since the classic model’s official debut. And what better way to celebrate it than by bringing it back modernized and fully electric.

To make its public debut, the concept has been presented alongside four variants that marked the history of this model so beloved by the public. The four R5s were an orange TL, a black Le Car Van, a blue electric R5 developed in 1972, and a champagne-colored TX.
The role of the Renault 5 Prototype does not differ much from that played by the classic Renault 5: to democratize electric cars in Europe, with a modern approach to the popular car and everything essential to meet the needs of the 21st century.

Inspired by the classic
Giles Vidal, head of the design team for this R5 Prototype, stated that they had drawn inspiration from the emblematic model in Renault’s heritage, retaining the main lines of the original design while applying a modern approach that stands out in its finishes and chosen materials.
Rumors suggest that this R5 will be built on an evolution of the CMF-B modular platform of the Renault Group, which underpins vehicles such as the Renault Clio and the Renault Captur, so this Renault 5 will likely replace the Renault ZOE.
