The Rimac Nevera is crowned the fastest electric car

This electric model has been put to the test and has managed to reach 421 km/h, although to do so it disconnected the speed limiter on the track.

The race to present the fastest electric car is increasingly present. And the fact is that manufacturers want to show that, in terms of performance, their models are just as impressive as combustion-engine cars. But, at least for now, the electric vehicle that has been crowned the fastest on the market is the Rimac Nevera.

The test was carried out with a production unit, that is, without any added modifications to go faster. It is even a registered vehicle, so it is approved to drive freely. Admittedly, to achieve this milestone the speed limiter was suspended and all of its potential was unleashed.

A record with a registered car

The importance of this detail is great, because it is a car that we can encounter on the road and on the streets of our cities. A point that makes it a very desirable car for those who, in addition to daily use, want to embrace the experience on the track.

The driver who took charge of making the model fly was Miro Zrnčević, Rimac’s test driver. He took the Rimac Nevera around the Automotive Testing Papenburg circuit, an oval-shaped track located in Germany. It has two straights, four kilometres each, where drivers can accelerate and let the car deliver its full power without needing to brake.

To complete the test, the car was set up with the option to move at maximum speed. This closes the air intakes and adjusts the position of the rear wing to offer the lowest air resistance. The car managed to reach 250 km/h after the first banking and on the final straight it got up to 412 km/h, which earned it the speed record.

To leave no doubt about the achievement, it was recorded with a high-precision Racelogic V-Box GPS. Until now, the speed record was held by the Bugatti Chiron Super Sport 300+, which reached the impressive speed of 409 km/h in 2019.

Other things to consider about this test are the tyres. The set used by the car was Pirelli Cup 2R tyres. Before the test, they were inspected by a brand technician, who checked that they were in good condition and could deliver the expected performance.

The experience of reaching this top speed can be achieved, but always under the supervision of a Rimac team. The Rimac Nevera has a claimed top speed of 352 km/h, but those who want to experience the thrill of surpassing this figure can book it on a controlled circuit.
