These are the ten best-selling electric cars in Spain during 2018
We are eight months into 2018 and the new school year has begun, so let us review the ten best-selling electric cars so far in 2018

August is not usually a very busy month, unless you work in hospitality. It is a month in which more sangria tends to be served than other products, but believe it or not, cars are also sold in this month. And although they do so very slowly, electric cars also reach the markets. We know that the arrival of this type of vehicle is still very slow, but each year the percentage of electric cars sold rises a little more. And, taking advantage of the fact that the start of the school year is upon us and the end of the year is not far off, we want to find out which electric car is the best-selling one in Spain.
In total, 3,046 electric cars have been sold during these first eight months of 2018. And that is without counting the rest of electric vehicles, such as commercial vehicles, motorcycles and quadricycles. We can see that they are not many, but it is quite good for a type of vehicle that is still not as popular as we would all like but is carving out the place it deserves in the market. Let us look at that list of the 10 best-selling electric cars of 2018.

The 10 best-selling electric cars in Spain in 2018
| BRAND | MODEL | SALES 2018 |
|---|---|---|
| RENAULT | Zoe | 744 units |
| NISSAN | Leaf | 591 units |
| BMW | I3 | 421 units |
| SMART | Fortwo | 347 units |
| SMART | Forfour | 242 units |
| VOLKSWAGEN | Golf | 170 units |
| HYUNDAI | Ioniq | 120 units |
| TESLA | Model S | 110 units |
| TESLA | Model X | 104 units | KIA | Soul | 71 units |
The table offers few surprises. As in the rest of the world, small city cars dominate the top positions of the list. The Renault Zoe takes the crown with 744 units sold in these eight months. Following it in sales is the Nissan LEAF with 591 units. And if we talk about sales during the month of August, we find that these two models are not the best-sellers for that month, an honour that goes to the BMW i3, which with 71 units sold during August adds up to 421 units for the whole year and ranks third overall.
In the mid-size segments we find the Golf, the Ioniq and the two Smart, which hold their ground without reaching the levels of the top positions on the list. As for the two Tesla sold in Spain, the Model X and the Model S slightly exceed 100 cars sold in eight months. Not bad at all for the highest-end range.
These figures are still low, but we hope they keep growing little by little and that, by the time we reach 2022, which all manufacturers point to as the definitive take-off of electric cars and hybrids. For now, let us see how the coming years unfold and what surprises they hold for us with electric cars.
