The tyre that adapts wheel pressure so you use less fuel
At the 2019 Frankfurt Motor Show, Continental presented a tyre that monitors pressure and adjusts it to what is needed at every moment

The 2019 Frankfurt Motor Show showcased many innovations that we hope to see on the market soon, but not all of them were new car models. Other innovations on display were auxiliary components for the automotive industry, such as tyres. Tyre technology is becoming increasingly advanced, and we can now count on tyres that boost car performance and also feature smart advances, such as the tyre presented by Continental, which regulates pressure according to the needs of each moment.
Thanks to the combination of electronics and engineering, this tyre can monitor pressure and adjust it to deliver the best efficiency, avoiding higher fuel consumption and making driving safer. Fuel consumption can rise considerably due to inadequate tyre pressure, so this new tyre can prevent the car from suffering this problem while driving.

The Continental tyre monitors various tyre variables, such as tread depth, tyre integrity and pressure. The technology is called C.A.R.E. (Connected, Autonomous, Reliable, Electrified) and, thanks to its sensors, it can keep track of all this data and keep the driver informed. In addition, it is fitted with a small centrifugal pump that allows pressure to be restored at any given moment to maintain it at the appropriate levels.
The pump uses the wheel’s rotation to generate the appropriate pressure, so it is completely autonomous. By always running at the right pressure for each situation, the car will not use more fuel than necessary, and considerable savings can be achieved over the tyre’s service life. The PressureBoost technology will also help monitor tyre condition in autonomous vehicle fleets, which have no driver to check the tyres.
Automatic tyre pressure control technology is already here, but we will have to wait a little longer before seeing it applied practically to our vehicles.
