The Volkswagen ID.4 spotted again as a test mule hinting at a sporty version

The Volkswagen ID.4 has been the second member of the ID. family to reach the market, providing assurance that a long lineage of electric vehicles is on its way from the brand. And the people from Wolfsburg have already stated for some time that this new division would cover all kinds of segments thanks to its modular MBE platform, which is also suitable for sporty versions. With this premise, we know that the intentions of Volkswagen are to create high-performance electric cars, and the new ID.4 may be the first to prove it.

For now, the German brand has not confirmed anything, although the rumors of an ID. set to replace the Scirocco and the future creation of a sporty ID.1 are getting stronger after the sighting of a Volkswagen ID.4 as a test mule.

The fact that a production vehicle is dressed up as a prototype again is only a sign that it is being used to disguise another model of similar size or that a new version is being developed. We bet on the latter, and it makes perfect sense that a hypothetical ID.4 GTI will eventually exist, given the potential of electric cars and the large number of sporty SUVs on the market.

Although Volkswagen has not made any statements on the matter, we have already seen how the ID.4 handles itself drifting on a circuit. It is also true that, for now, there is only one mechanical variant available, but it is only a matter of time before the Teutonic brand expands the range, most likely with a sporty version.

Everything points to a car capable of reaching 300 CV of power and 500 Nm of torque. Given that the latter is delivered instantly due to its electric nature, we are talking about a result on par with any combustion sporty SUV, or even slightly better, more intense and fun.

It is difficult to say for certain that the Volkswagen ID.4 will be the first ID. to have a sporty variant, but we are sure that the electric family will eventually offer more radical variants, which will coexist peacefully and harmoniously -for now- with current combustion sports models, which are also succumbing to PHEV technology, as the Touareg R demonstrates.
