This is how the most radical Audi R8 sounds thanks to ABT

The Audi R8 has been through the hands of tuner ABT, which has given it considerable aerodynamic improvements, but it also changes the sound.

The world of supercars is fascinating and increasingly radical. Manufacturers are starting to apply the latest technologies to their fastest products. We can see this in how hybrid technology is being applied to this type of vehicle, turning it into a deadly weapon on the track. Even so, there are companies that want to take supercars even further, as is the case with ABT. This time it was the turn of the Audi R8, but in this article we are going to focus on one particular aspect of the German sports car.

ABT is known for giving a much more aggressive and sporty touch to vehicles from the VAG group but, above all, it has a particular fondness for models from the four-ring brand. The ABT-modified Audi R8 was announced some time ago, but today we will show you what the sound coming out of its aftermarket exhaust system is like. Even so, we must also make a special mention of the other elements this very special R8 features.

Aesthetically it receives quite a radical change, with modifications to both the front bumper and the rear diffuser. The splitter has been replaced with a more aggressive one, and two large air intakes dominate the front. The overall effect makes the R8 look even wider and lower than it already is and gives it considerable aerodynamic improvements.

On the other hand, the interior has also undergone a series of changes. Carbon fibre and Alcantara make an appearance and provide a touch of higher quality. At the same time, inserts matching the exterior colour have been added to the Audi R8, but aesthetics are not the only thing ABT has modified on the most radical Audi to date.

As standard, the R8 comes with a powerful naturally aspirated 5.2-litre V10 FSI engine, which produces 610 CV of power. After going through ABT’s hands, this power rises to 630 CV. The difference is not overwhelming but, combined with the aerodynamic work and the suspension modification, we get a result that differs quite a lot from the factory R8. At the same time, the ABT R8 weighs 50 kg less, which is very beneficial. Even so, this was not enough for the German tuner, which is why they also modified the supercar’s exhaust.

The ABT Audi R8 forgoes the twin rectangular exhaust outlets and adopts four cylindrical outlets, reminiscent of those fitted to the first-generation R8 V8. But it is not only a visual change, as it is also functional. The very distinctive sound produced by the V10 is considerably amplified , and this is something that can be appreciated quite well in the video provided by ABT.
