This is how the new Volkswagen Passat Alltrack is built to escape the big city
The Volkswagen Passat Alltrack is the most rural and adventurous variant of the new Volkswagen Passat
The parallel presentation of the Volkswagen Passat Alltrack from 2019 and the new Volkswagen Passat itself, which we saw yesterday and will see at the Geneva Motor Show 2019 as one of the novelties of the show, suggests that we are facing cars with completely different philosophies based on the same car.
While the new Volkswagen Passat offers a thorough revision of the engines, above all because both diesel and petrol versions now feature a particulate filter, and a new 2-litre, 150 CV TDI engine marketed as the Volkswagen Passat 2.0 TDI Evo, the version that will sit alongside the saloon and Variant bodywork and takes the latter as its base will be clearly differentiated from the other two.
As with the rest of the 2019 Volkswagen Passat range, the starting price of the Volkswagen Passat Alltrack has not been announced. For reference, the current generation, which will remain on sale until this year’s update arrives, has a starting price of 46,620 euros for the cheapest version, equipped with the 190 CV 2.0 TDI engine, and 49,275 € for the 272 hp 2.0 TSI engine.
Volkswagen Passat Alltrack, an estate with off-road capabilities
In 2018, Volkswagen announced that the next-generation Volkswagen Golf range would drop the three-door body as well as the Golf Variant, Golf Sportsvan and also the Golf Alltrack. For this 2019 Volkswagen Passat, the estate is retained and strengthened, with the Alltrack distinguished by its use.
Moving away from the SUV trend, the Volkswagen Passat Alltrack offers an alternative for those looking for a car with a predisposition to adventure, capable of delivering maximum comfort on tarmac and great abilities off the black asphalt.
The Volkswagen Passat Alltrack has a greater ground clearance between the body and the road, specifically 172 mm. This allows it to tackle rough terrain more easily and gives it greater capacity when facing a possible water crossing.
To demonstrate its off-road abilities, this new car features a unique running gear, different from that of the other bodies. Likewise, to increase its potential as a crossover, the Volkswagen Passat Alltrack has a dedicated off-road driving mode.
Powerful engines and all-wheel drive for the Volkswagen Passat Alltrack
The mechanicals of this car have also been designed to allow full use of its qualities. For this reason, the engines of the Volkswagen Passat Alltrack are the most powerful ones, paired with 4Motion all-wheel drive and a seven-speed DSG automatic gearbox.
In terms of engine options, the petrol version offers the 272 CV 2.0 TSI engine. The diesel Volkswagen Passat Alltrack, meanwhile, will come with the 190 or 240 CV 2.0 TDI engine.
Aesthetically, it does not merely opt for a distinctive touch compared to the more urban versions. Thanks to elements such as the sill protectors, wheel arches and bumpers, these become functional when travelling along, at the very least, unpaved tracks.
As with the saloon and Variant versions, it will debut an improved infotainment system controlled by voice commands, a revised Digital Cockpit, greater internet connectivity and driver assistance systems grouped under the IQ.Drive package, which seek to approach car automation without reaching full autonomous driving.
