Toyota begins its farewell to diesel for good: the new Auris, with no diesel offering

Toyota has always been known for efficiency and respect for the environment. Now, the Japanese have announced the gradual withdrawal of diesel.

The battle that diesel is waging in territories such as Europe is intensifying by the moment.

Manufacturers are striving to improve the performance of their engines, although some have decided, quite literally, to forget about diesel. This is the case of Toyota.

The 2018 Geneva Motor Show has served as a springboard for most brands to present their novelties and proposals for the coming years. One of the most “generous” firms has been Toyota, which took the opportunity to present the renewed Aygo and the third generation of the compact Auris.

The new Auris has arrived loaded with novelties: a new modular platform, a completely new design, a higher-quality interior and much more advanced technology. Mechanically, the new Auris marks a milestone for the brand, as it will debut a new hybrid powertrain, more powerful and dynamic, with a final output of 180 CV.

Thanks to this new powertrain, which will become the top of the range above a 115 CV petrol engine and a 122 CV hybrid powertrain, Toyota has allowed itself the luxury of removing diesel engines from the Auris range, becoming the first generation of Auris to discard these powertrains.

Toyota does not intend to stop there, since the Auris will serve as a mirror in which all of the Japanese brand’s new launches will look, as it has decided, little by little, to abandon diesel technology, phasing it out of its range. Yes, Toyota has set out to say goodbye to diesel for good.

With this move, Toyota wants to become an example within the industry, thus culminating a trajectory that began more than 20 years ago with the launch of the Prius, the first hybrid vehicle produced in series, and which today is a true benchmark within the Japanese brand.
