Toyota is not giving up on the combustion engine yet: it presents a new unit that delivers up to 600 CV

Toyota wants to show what can still be achieved with a combustion engine and presents a new unit that promises to surprise and deliver the best of these units

The end of combustion engines should be getting closer and closer, but it must be taken into account that manufacturers are still working on this type of engine and are preparing new developments in this regard. For example, Toyota, which is not suspected of giving up electric drive, has unveiled a new combustion engine that produces up to 400 CV, but that can reach 600 CV.

This four-cylinder, 2.0-litre engine delivers this power, although it offers the possibility of reaching 600 CV if it is tuned to run in competition mode. It has been fitted to a Toyota GR Yaris in which this engine has been mounted in a mid-engine position. In principle, it is one of the new-generation engines, which will have displacements of 1.5 and 2.0 litres.

The new engine is designed to be installed both en a longitudinal and a transverse position, so it can be used in different models. From the future Toyota Supra, arriving soon and currently using a propulsion system of BMW, to possible new versions of the MR2 and the Celica.

The brand assures that there is still room for the development of new combustion engines, which can continue to offer a great deal, but without any kind of electrification. In fact, other companies are expected to join this project and use these engines in future models, before thermal engines disappear completely in favour of electric ones.

In this way, Toyota is going to offer a model that aims to please the most demanding petrol heads, those who want to keep feeling the sensations that a petrol car provides. This model will offer the pure sound of a petrol engine, the driving experience and a challenging edge. Although, of course, with the environment in mind and with the latest technology to reduce the polluting effects of this engine to a minimum.
