Toyota Mirai FCV, technical details

Toyota has begun to reveal more details about what will undoubtedly be one of the most relevant vehicles of the 21st century. We’re talking about the Toyota Mirai FCV.
As we told you a few weeks ago, the Mirai FCV will be the first launch of Toyota within the fuel cell vehicles.
Today, the Japanese manufacturer has provided more technical details about this revolutionary vehicle, which is set to become the “spiritually innovative” successor to the successful Prius. The Mirai, powered by an electric motor fed by a hydrogen fuel cell, will enjoy a range of close to 500 kilometres with the only emission being water vapour from the exhaust. It will therefore become one of the cleanest cars in history, although we cannot yet speak of zero emissions as long as the production and extraction of hydrogen remains a process that continues to release pollution into the air.

The Mirai will be able to accelerate from 0 to 100 km/h in approximately 9 seconds, making overtaking and recoveries child’s play, since thanks to its high torque, delivered instantly, it will be able to perform the 50 to 80 km/h manoeuvre in just over 3.5 seconds. It has also been revealed that the fuel cell can generate 155 CV, and that it can be started at temperatures down to -22ºC.
Furthermore, Toyota states that it will be able to refuel in less than three minutes, a time similar to that of a combustion-engined vehicle, and a very notable advance over the current – and future – battery-powered electric vehicles.

Inside, we find a dashboard with a terribly futuristic design, highlighted by two touchscreens, one dedicated to controlling the multimedia system and the other focused on the climate control. The boot will have a capacity of approximately 361 litres.
