Type 00: believe it or not, this is a Jaguar, and this is what the brand's future models will look like

Jaguar wants to break with the established order, and it does so by presenting a new brand identity and a prototype, the Jaguar TYPE 00, which previews a future production 4-door electric GT arriving at the end of 2025.

A clean slate. At least that is the impression Jaguar gives about what it intends to do with its new strategy to “reinvent” itself as a brand. We have already seen it with the debut of a new visual identity that is as groundbreaking as it is bold. And the new Jaguar Type 00 confirms what is already a true statement of intent. Forget what you knew about Jaguar until now. In the future, what comes next will look like this prototype, unveiled not at a car show but at Miami Art Week. This already gives us an idea of where things are heading…

We will see whether this change of direction helps Jaguar reinvent itself and recover an identity that, at the moment, seems lost. If the goal is to start by making noise (you know the saying, “any publicity is good publicity”), there is no doubt they have achieved it. Perhaps this is the path.

The preview of the new production car to launch in 2025

Jaguar previews the lines of a future production car, an electric four-door GT that will be unveiled at the end of 2025, and which will not go on sale before spring 2026. And it does so with the Type 00, a coupé that refers to the car that best represents what the brand is… and what it wants to be again: the legendary E-Type. On the one hand, in the model name, with the “Type” prefix. As a curiosity, the double “zero” alludes to the emissions from the non-existent exhaust pipe (it is an electric car) and to the “zero car” that the new lineage of the brand is supposed to represent.

But there is also something of the E-Type in the proportions of the Type 00, with its elongated bonnet and a set-back driving position. Although some also see connections with models of Range Rover and even with the very Tesla Cybertruck in some features of its design. The truth is that I, a passionate admirer of classic Jaguar cars (the E-Type is my favourite car of all time), do not see a resemblance to any Jaguar from the past… nor to any modern car. To be honest, my first impression of the teaser the brand released to preview its new model, which showed only the rear, was that it reminded me of an air-source heat pump…

New Jaguar Electric Architecture platform: up to 770 km of range

The TYPE 00, in addition to bold lines that combine angular shapes with a very “industrial” grille, 23-inch wheels and showy elements such as brass ingots that unfold to reveal the mirror cameras when needed, breaks with convention with features such as a tailgate without a rear window, or the pink colour chosen to present the prototype. The interior is no less striking, although in this case it is even more “prototype” than the exterior. Motorised screens that hide when not needed, floating seats… We will see what survives of the prototype’s “modern” lines when the production car arrives.

What is certain is that it will use the new JEA platform (Jaguar Electric Architecture), about which very little is known. There are already prototypes in testing, and Jaguar indicates that its future production GT will reach a WLTP homologated range of up to 770 km, with the possibility of recovering up to 320 km in just 15 minutes using ultra-fast charging. For car enthusiasts, and in particular devotees of the Jaguar of old, the wait is going to feel endless.
