If you like powerful BMW cars with a couple of decades behind them, don’t miss what comes next, since you are unlikely to see another BMW M5 from 1993, and therefore one belonging to the E34 generation with what it hides under its bonnet. It is located in the United States and its price is very affordable for what you are about to discover.

The BMW M5 E34 was the last M5 to feature a six-cylinder inline engine, displacing 3.8 litres. A car still greatly admired by enthusiasts of the brand despite being 25 years old. But there are people who are not easily satisfied, and the owner of this unit decided that the inline-six was not enough.

Our protagonist’s swap consisted of the installation of a V12 engine, but not just any V12. Do you remember the BMW 850 CSi? You have probably never seen one on the road, as it was a very limited model of which barely 1,500 units were produced. The fact is that the M5 received precisely the engine from the exclusive 850 CSi. A V12 of no less than 5.6 litres with internal designation S70B65 which, after some slight modifications, has exceeded 400 horsepower. The swap, according to its owner, was carried out 7,000 miles ago, roughly 11,200 kilometres.

Other modifications this M5 E34 has received to offset its increase in power include a six-speed gearbox, a specific tuning setup with new suspension arms and H&R springs, thicker anti-roll bars and a limited-slip differential. The braking system has also been upgraded, with larger-diameter grooved discs.

Aesthetically, as we can see, it goes completely unnoticed, like any other E34 M5. Although the paintwork is in somewhat improvable condition, the overall look is hard to improve upon. In the interior, the seat upholstery and general condition are very good. It is a unit that is 23 years old and has just under 130,000 kilometres.

Its price? Far less than one might expect from a car like this, which has also received a mechanical setup as exclusive as the V12 described above. $16,500, roughly 14,800 euros.
