Volkswagen Amarok 2022: new sketches of the Wolfsburg pick-up

With a truly robust and muscular look, the long-awaited Volkswagen pick-up will come with several TDI variants

Volkswagen Amarok 2022

Last December, Volkswagen released the first teaser sketches of the new-generation Amarok, showing the pick-up’s general features in a fairly sparse way. Those features become much clearer thanks to the latest new sketches published from Wolfsburg.

Born from the alliance between Ford and Volkswagen, this second generation of the Amarok will use as its platform that of the popular Ford Ranger, while sporting its brand’s own design language and plenty, but plenty, of character.

The new Amarok sketches place it in a snow-covered setting, where the pick-up moves about with total ease. This is no coincidence: the earlier images mentioned above showed it in a desert environment, where the Amarok likewise showed off its capabilities.

Bigger and more muscular than its predecessor

In these new images we can highlight its new light clusters linked together, like those of its siblings the Polo and the Golf, its smaller honeycomb-style grille, its tall bonnet, and its muscular front bumper and wheel arches, which give the Amarok a genuinely muscular yet robust appearance.

From the side, the new black and grey aluminium alloy wheels fitted with All-Terrain tyres visually widen the whole vehicle, largely thanks to the pronounced wheel arches mentioned earlier, along with the metal side steps at the lower edge.

From what can be seen in the second image, the Amarok’s capabilities must be outstanding, since it can carry a heavy load in its bed and tow a four-wheeled trailer carrying a snowmobile and several more crates.

Interior and engines

Inside, if we combine the images published in December with these latest ones, we can see a fully digital instrument cluster, a generous touchscreen for the infotainment system, a sporty multifunction steering wheel, and a dashboard with topstitching along its upper part, giving a strong sense of quality.

Those responsible at Volkswagen, although they have not officially confirmed the engine range this new generation will include, have revealed that all will be TDI, just as with the Ranger, whose range is headed by its 2.0 bi-turbo engine and the 3.0 V6.
