Volkswagen New Beetle, Citroën E-Mehari and Alpine A110: do they live up to their predecessors?
The Volkswagen Beetle, the Citroën E-Mehari and the Alpine A110 were three very iconic vehicles in their original versions, but do they live up to the mark today?

Many vehicles have marked a before and after in the history of the automobile, and their impact on the world has endured in our memories. Some of these models caused a major stir, which has led manufacturers to create modern versions based on their forebears. Three good examples of this type of car are the Volkswagen New Beetle, the Citroën E-Mehari and the Alpine A110, but do they live up to what they once were?
All three models generated great anticipation among motoring enthusiasts, and their success went beyond that. Today we have modern versions of all of them, a risk that their respective manufacturers had to take, since recreating a vehicle from the past whose fame was truly high is no simple task. Nevertheless, these companies have decided to play their cards and achieve a positive result.
Volkswagen New Beetle: the rebirth of a myth
The Volkswagen Beetle was born in 1938, shortly before the Second World War began. It was conceived as a car for the people, designed to travel the motorways built to link the countries near Germany and to move smoothly from one to another. After the war, the final version of the Beetle was developed, and its success was undeniable. Today, two generations have been responsible for once again representing this iconic vehicle.

In 1998 the Volkswagen New Beetle appeared, and it was replaced in 2012. This second generation is still in production, and sales figures confirm that both versions were a real success for the German brand. However, the latest New Beetle looks somewhat outdated compared with its siblings, since it has not received its corresponding update, which we hope to see very soon. Without a doubt, the German brand knew how to reinterpret the design of the original Beetle, so that the current model combines technological elements with the essence of the first model.
Citroën E-Mehari: a blend of past and future
A small convertible compact rolled out of the Citroën factory in 1968. This was the Mehari, a low-budget vehicle designed so that its customers could enjoy a unique driving experience without having to spend an excessive amount of money. Its success was resounding, thanks to its charismatic design and personality.

Almost 150,000 units of the Mehari were produced, making it a car much loved by the public of the time. Today, Citroën has announced the modern version of this model, which features an electric powertrain. Without a doubt, this model has every chance of becoming as successful as its predecessor, thanks to a concept based on the original and a style that combines past and future perfectly.
Alpine A110: frozen in time
The world of sports cars offers a more complicated reinterpretation, since it requires a great deal of aerodynamic work, where every component of the car matters. Nevertheless, the French firm has done very well in recreating the iconic Alpine with this new variant. Its essence remains intact, and it never gives up on technological elements.

The original Alpine was one of the most iconic models of all time, and the company had a hard job ahead of it. The successor has shown a style that matches up, and the only thing left to check is its dynamic performance, but without a doubt, it is a vehicle that promises a great deal.
