Volkswagen Passat 2023: these are the changes the model will undergo

The ninth generation of the Volkswagen Passat will arrive in 2023 with a thorough overhaul. Do you want to know what the new Passat will be like?

The New Volkswagen Passat Variant R Line

The new Volkswagen Passat will arrive in 2023 completely redesigned. The brand will drop one body style and may also abandon diesel engines. The Passat debuted on the market in 1973 and has remained in production without interruption for almost five decades. So far, eight generations of this impressive saloon have been built. However, the Volkswagen Passat 2023 will undergo a major restructuring due to the arrival of SUVs.

The Volkswagen Passat is based on the MQB platform, which has been in use since 2014 and, now, after seven years on the market, it is only natural that the manufacturer has started work on its next saloon. Volkswagen already confirmed some time ago that the ninth generation of the Volkswagen Passat would reach the market, and now we have learned that it will feature significant changes and even a plug-in hybrid version, PHEV, with up to 100 km of range.

This is how the new Volkswagen Passat will look

The most important change the Volkswagen Passat will receive from 2023 is that the four-door saloon body will be dropped from the range. The Volkswagen Passat B9 will only be available as a Variant estate, although the report claims it could become a liftback, similar to the line the Volkswagen Arteon has adopted.

In addition, the new Volkswagen Passat may grow in size and offer a longer wheelbase. The aim is to increase legroom and boot space. It will continue to be built on the MQB platform and will offer a 2.0-litre engine with 4Motion all-wheel drive in the high-end versions. For now it is unknown whether it will offer a plug-in hybrid variant, but the brand has confirmed that, for the time being, there will be no fully electric Passat.

The Nw Volkswagen Passat Alltrack

The German manufacturer has already confirmed that the new Volkswagen Passat will arrive in 2023 and will be assembled at its plant in Bratislava, Slovakia, instead of the Emden, Germany plant where the current generation is produced. It is important to highlight that it will be built alongside the upcoming Skoda Superb, which would explain the possible elimination of the saloon-bodied Volkswagen Passat. In this way, competition between the two models is reduced.
