Volkswagen will launch the first ID within a year to make room for a new electric era
Volkswagen and its ID family will make their appearance at the end of 2019, something that will be possible thanks to the development of the new MEB platform.

A few days ago, we told you that Volkswagen is ready to unveil next year the eighth generation of the Volkswagen Golf, but that it would not arrive alone. The arrival of the new German compact will be accompanied by the first member of Volkswagen’s ID family, the acronym that will represent its 100% electric models. In this way, the Wolfsburg-based company has taken the opportunity to anticipate a series of keys and objectives it aims to achieve with its new range of vehicles, and which will gradually arrive.
The arrival of this first Volkswagen ID marks the brand’s first steps towards an electric world, which will be fully operational from 2020 onwards. The German firm asserts that this new step will be as decisive as the one they took when creating the Beetle or the first Golf, two models that marked a before and after in the history of the automotive industry.
It will be at the end of 2019 when Volkswagen opens the doors of its factory in Zwickau for the ID to make its appearance. This will be the turning point for the German firm, as it will be the step in which it fully enters a new type of vehicle that offers important innovations not only in its mechanics, but also in its platform.

As we announced a week ago, together with the new electric strategy of Audi, Volkswagen will work jointly with the four-ring brand on a new platform called MEB. This acronym, translated into Spanish, refers to “Modular Electric Drive Matrix”, and in a first wave the German company plans to produce 15 million vehicles developed on this basis.
Volkswagen also aims to invest more than 11,000 million euros in electric mobility, autonomous driving and digitalisation, of which more than 9,000 million will be allocated exclusively to the creation of the ID family. However, the creation of this new generation of models would not have been possible without the collaboration of several entities that will help round out the whole, such as Elektrobit, a company that has helped create software that will allow ID models to update autonomously thanks to an Automotive Cloud.

With this premise, the German firm intends to revolutionise the world of electric vehicles despite its recent arrival in our market. 2019 will be a key year for Volkswagen, in which the reins of this new era led by the ID vehicles will be taken up, as they are ready to grow and to enter each and every segment worked by the brand.
