Volvo XC90 T8 by Polestar, the most powerful Volvo production car ever

Volvo adds a touch of spice to its largest model, the XC90. Polestar has been tasked with giving more zest to the large Swedish SUV under the name Volvo XC90 T8 Twin Engine, making it the most powerful series-production vehicle in the brand’s history.
This is not the first official tuning that Polestar has carried out for Volvo. In fact, not long ago we saw the powerful Polestar versions of the Volvo S60 and V60, which, despite using four-cylinder engines with just 2,000 cubic centimetres, delivered a more than generous 367 hp, although torque was reduced by 30 Nm, settling at a not-bad 470 Nm.
The thing is that the new Volvo XC90 T8 Twin Engine relies on hybridisation of its powertrain, combining a petrol engine with an electric plug-in motor that has been improved thanks to the Polestar variant. The petrol part is a 2-litre four-cylinder engine which, working together with the 87 hp electric motor, delivers a combined total of 421 hp at full output, while torque reaches a generous 680 Nm.

All this allows the large SUV from the prestigious Swedish brand to accelerate from standstill to 100 km/h in 5.5 seconds, a figure that could embarrass more than one sports car.
The electric motor has a homologated range of 43 kilometres running in electric-only mode. Thanks to this, it can post laughably low homologated consumption figures: just 2.1 l/100 km.
Volvo claims that the response to accelerator inputs is more instantaneous after Polestar’s tuning, which enhances the driving pleasure.
On the other hand, the Polestar Volvo XC90 T8 Twin Engine has had its automatic gearbox optimised. It features a recalibration that, using lateral G-force sensors, will prevent gear changes when lateral acceleration is high. This improves stability when cornering and, above all, the safety and confidence the driver feels.
