A 1947 Chevrolet pick-up shell turns into a slalom beast
A 1947 Chevrolet pick-up finds an unexpected second life in slalom competitions, thanks to an enormous “homemade” job on the chassis and suspension.

Someday we could talk at length about the kind of vehicle we would build from an old one or with parts from other vehicles, if we had the money and the time. Perhaps something like this 1947 Chevrolet pick-up that in other circumstances would have ended up as a nice metal cube. However, money makes everything possible and has even allowed this useless shell to be resurrected with a 400-horsepower V8 engine.
The chassis of the old pick-up was replaced by that of a Chevrolet S-10, which gave roughly the same size. However, it was necessary to shorten the new chassis even further to arrive at the final idea. With its low weight (just over 1000 kilos) and the short bodywork, adding a small 400-horsepower V8 block has only made the heartbeats of the creators of such a pick-up race, turning it into a drifting machine.

As you know, Americans have plenty to choose from when it comes to getting parts here and there: the brakes of a third-generation Camaro fell into place perfectly for this “47”, while some parts had to be constructed specifically, such as the rear suspension, responsible for delivering traction at the level required for slalom competitions.

If the general look of the pick-up grabs attention, besides its short wheelbase, it is thanks to the enormous tires in sizes 15/35/17 and 335/35/17 for the rear. Some nice Cragar wheels have found their place here, although as you can see in the “before and after”, the bodywork is practically the same as it was when it was rescued from the scrapyard.
Something like this is not something you see every day. Particularly the style of the widened fenders and the rat rod touch on the bodywork. And in case all of that were not enough, the roof was cut by almost 10 centimeters.
