Honda has the new bodywork for its compact Civic almost ready. This is the estate version, commercially named Civic Tourer.

It will be presented at the Frankfurt Motor Show in September 2013, going on sale in early 2014, where it will help round out the Civic range.

The Japanese manufacturer has also announced that this version will include numerous new features, such as variable adaptive suspension for the rear axle. This intelligent system will keep the vehicle’s ride height constant regardless of the load and driving conditions applied to the car. Thanks to a sensor-controlled levelling system, the Civic Tourer will level the car’s attitude, reducing body roll and the inertia typical of a vehicle of this kind in real time.

Honda has also released several official images of the model, still under camouflage, though they give us a good overall idea of the final result. Compared with other models in its segment, the Civic Tourer’s design will be more dynamic than, for example, a Seat León ST or a Golf Variant. We do not yet have technical data or interior and exterior dimensions, but the Honda will probably sacrifice practicality only minimally in favour of a sportier and more attractive design.

Almost certainly, the Honda Civic Tourer will share its engines with the hatchback body version. This means it will offer two diesel variants of 1.6 and 2.2 litres producing 120 and 150 CV respectively. If we look at petrol engines, there are two versions of 99 and 141 CV. All of them will be paired with a 6-speed manual gearbox. We do not yet have prices or equipment details, but at Highmotor we expect only minimal differences compared with the conventional bodywork.
