Alpina has just announced one of its main new releases, the XD3. It uses the BMW X3 as its base and takes it to the point of reaching 388 CV and 770 Nm of torque.

The Geneva Motor Show doesn’t concern itself with models, brands or companies; it only cares about cars, so every kind of creation is welcome through the doors of one of the most anticipated events of the year. Once inside, we can find virtually any novelty related to the automotive world, and one company that could not be missing was Alpina. The German tuner has unveiled its latest creation, which uses the X3 as its base to carry out what it calls the XD3.

This name corresponds to the most powerful diesel variant of the German SUV which, despite not carrying the BMW name after passing through Alpina’s hands, still retains an essence that is uniquely the Teutonic brand’s. However, what the tuner has managed to achieve is presenting the most powerful version of the X3 to date, a record that could be surpassed by the future SUV bearing the M badge. Despite this, the changes are not limited to the mechanics; they extend to both the exterior and the cabin.

Alpina is known for offering radical, powerful and eye-catching vehicles, three fundamental characteristics that are present in this XD3. The first thing we must highlight about this new creation is the front bumper, which takes on a much sportier and more aggressive look thanks to prominent air intakes. The rear is not spared by Alpina either, since we can also notice a diffuser that houses four cylindrical exhaust outlets.

Stepping into the cabin, the situation is not much different from what we see on the outside. It is true that the interior of the XD3 feels calmer and more restrained, which is because Alpina also seeks to offer exclusive comfort on the move. But if there is one thing we must highlight, it is undoubtedly the two large seats we find when opening the door of this souped-up X3. The rest of the elements remain faithful to their origins, and the only notable change is the presence of the Alpina badge in various places throughout the cabin.

The tuner has taken as its basis the 3.0-litre diesel engine and has raised it to the next level. After a series of modifications, the XD3 is capable of producing 388 CV of power and an impressive 770 Nm of torque. These figures allow the German SUV to reach 100 km/h in just 4.6 seconds, placing it on par with several sports cars. At the same time, to encourage a more sporty driving style, Alpina has fitted an adjustable suspension with multiple ride heights and firmness levels.

Without a doubt, the XD3 stands out as one of the most radical SUVs on the market, but we won’t see it in action on the road until next year. For now, we can enjoy this new Alpina model at the Geneva Motor Show, an event that will take place in early March.
