BMW 750d xDrive 2017: Four turbos and 400 CV of power

The new BMW models in the 7 Series, the 750d and the 750Ld xDrive, will feature 3.0-litre engines with a multi-stage turbocharger setup using four turbochargers and common-rail direct injection, delivering a considerable 400 CV and 450 Nm of torque from just 1,000 rpm, reaching a peak of 760 Nm between 2,000 and 3,000 rpm.
The engines with multiple turbochargers previously used by the Bavarian marque were 3.0-litre six-cylinder units, still fitted in the M550xd and the X5 M50d, which use two compact low-pressure turbochargers and one additional high-pressure unit. These new engines use two pairs of compact turbochargers, which improve performance and deliver more power and torque precisely when it is needed.
This new engine with four compressors will be paired with an eight-speed automatic gearbox, as well as the xDrive all-wheel-drive system. With all these features, the BMW 750d will be able to accelerate from standstill to 100 km/h in just 4.6 seconds. The 750Ld will manage the same in 4.7 seconds, an improvement of 0.3 seconds over its predecessors.

These new models are faster than the previous ones, and not only that, they also offer 5% more power than the earlier models, while their efficiency has also increased by 11%. In figures, this means they will have a consumption of 5.7 and 5.9 litres per 100 kilometres, respectively. As for emissions, these will be between 149 and 154 g/km, placing them below the models they are replacing.
For now, both the BMW 750d and the BMW 750Ld will only be available in Europe, from July 2016, although we do not yet have pricing details for the different variants that will be available from that month.
