Did you think you had already seen everything with the just-launched BMW M4? Well, we’re sorry to say you haven’t. Although the first units of the BMW M4 Competition are only now beginning to reach their proud owners, we have to tell you that the Bavarian brand, specifically its sports division, is already working on a model that will make more than a few people’s jaws drop. It’s the BMW M4 CSL.

The new BMW M4 CSL could reach the market during the first quarter of 2023, although its world premiere will take place in early 2022. The Bavarian brand is already preparing one of its most radical models with which it will celebrate the 50th anniversary of BMW M. The BMW M4 CSL will be a special coupé that will offer an impressive design.

If you think back a little, in mid-September, when the new BMW M4 was almost ready to roll out of the factory, more aggressive and radical prototypes equipped with original M Performance Parts appeared. They also offered a more brutal look; without a doubt, it was an appetizer of what could be the BMW M4 CSL of 2022.

The wheel arches have grown considerably more, as a result of the track having been widened too, an exceptional fact since the accessories don’t fit those dimensions. Without knowing it, we were looking at one of the Bavarian models that will go down in history. Everything points to its presentation taking place at the end of spring 2022; it will have a more refined look and bring very attractive new features.

The upcoming BMW M4 CSL will be the successor to the BMW M4 GTS, although it will arrive with a much more radical image. It will have gold-painted details, 21-inch forged alloy wheels from M Performance, decorative trim on the side gills and the horizontal bars of the new grille. In addition, the wing mirrors and the front bumper lip will be made of carbon fibre. The same goes for the roof panel and the boot spoiler.

The goal of the Bavarians has been to cut weight and use lightweight materials, both outside and inside. All these ingredients form the ideal mix for enjoying the extreme sensations that come with taking to the track. The suspension will have new springs and dampers, and the steering, braking and unsprung masses will also be revised. The new German sports car will be based on the rear-wheel-drive Competition version. It will be lighter and will feature an electronic differential.

As for the engine, BMW M will make changes to the 3.0-litre TwinPower Turbo straight-six. It will have 40 CV more and will reach 550 CV. It will also feature an eight-speed automatic gearbox.
