The family of BMW M keeps growing. Now it’s the turn of one of the models that has become the flagship of high-performance SUVs. We are talking about the BMW X5. This third generation of the model, Sport Activity Vehicle, SAV, as the Bavarian brand calls it, arrives loaded “with a captivating character and its classic M genetics”.

According to the manufacturer itself, the new BMW X5 M offers a combined fuel consumption of between 12.8 and 13 litres/100 km and CO2 emissions of 291-296 g/km. For its part, its sibling the BMW X5 M Competition has the same consumption and emissions figures.

BMW X5 M and BMW X5 M Competition: how do they differ?

Both versions feature a V8 engine that delivers up to 625 CV of power in the Competition version, or in other words 460 kW and 600 CV in the M version. This powertrain is paired with a specific M chassis and “precise control over the transmission”. The new high-performance BMW X5 is capable of accelerating from 0 to 100 km/h in 3.9 seconds, while the Competition version does it in 3.8 seconds.

The engine is linked to an M Steptronic eight-speed gearbox with Drivelogic, M xDrive all-wheel-drive system and active M differential.

These figures make it 0.4 seconds faster than its predecessors. As the BMW itself asserts, “this thrilling performance package benefits from the exhaustive tuning carried out during the intense development sessions on the test tracks of the BMW Group at the Nürburgring”.

It is important to highlight that the new BMW X5 M and BMW X5 M Competition will make their public debut at the upcoming Los Angeles Auto Show in November of this same year. Likewise, customers will have to wait until 2 May 2020 to purchase it from dealerships.
