BMW unveils what will be the top of the range for its new XM: the Label Red version, which also comes with a limited edition

Just a few days ago BMW began the sales of the spectacular XM in Spain. The model was presented with great fanfare last September, when the brand also announced the XM Label Red version. It is the top-of-the-range and therefore most extreme version of the XM, and it will even feature a limited edition of 500 units called Label Red Limited. And finally, we can now see it in all its glory.

Exclusive exterior details and sporty interior

Aesthetically, the BMW XM draws attention from every angle, largely due to its dimensions and pronounced lines. These lines are undoubtedly enhanced by the colour selection for the XM Label Red: 50 shades created by BMW Individual, including the new Urban Green, Petral Mica metallic, Anglesey Green metallic and Sepia metallic.

Whichever of these colours we choose for the XM Label Red will be combined with trim and surfaces in high-gloss black, such as the surround of the grille or the rear diffuser. We can also include the Toronto Red characteristic of this model in the model logos and in the inserts of the 21-inch wheels fitted as standard. Precisely, Toronto Red will be the star of the Label Red Limited version, which adds further details in this colour to the grille surround, the rear diffuser and even the bodywork, which is painted in Frozen Carbon Black metallic.

Inside the BMW XM Label Red, a sporty atmosphere is evident thanks to a colour scheme in which black predominates with red as the contrast. The sports seats with integrated headrests have an upper section in a diamond shape upholstered in red leather, while the lower part is black and serves to highlight the red stitching. This colour is also present as an accent on the door panels, the dashboard, the centre console and the air vent surrounds, blending perfectly with the carbon fibre trim. In addition, the Label Red Limited version features the inscription “1 of 500” beneath the central screen.

The hybrid powertrain gains power

Bmw Xm Label Red (7)

The BMW XM Label Red uses the same hybrid system as the XM but with more power, consisting of a 4,400 cc V8 M TwinPower Turbo petrol engine that produces 585 CV and 280 Nm of torque, combined with an electric motor producing 197 CV and 280 Nm of torque. This results in a combined output of 748 CV and a torque figure that reaches the magic number of 1,000 Nm. This means the XM Label Red increases its power over the XM by 95 CV, while torque rises by 200 Nm.

This hybrid system works together with the 8-speed M Steptronic gearbox, which sends power to all four wheels thanks to M xDrive intelligent all-wheel drive. This combination allows it to accelerate to 100 km/h in an impressive 3.8 seconds and reach a limited top speed of 250 km/h. If we opt for the optional M Driver’s Package, we can raise the top speed to 290 km/h.

We must not forget that this hybrid system also includes the lithium-ion battery with a capacity of 25.7 kWh, located in the underbody of the XM. Thanks to this battery, the XM Label Red can travel up to 83 kilometres in fully electric mode according to the WLTP cycle, provided speeds do not exceed 140 km/h. Once the battery is depleted, we can use AC charging points of up to 7.4 kW to charge it fully in just under 4.5 hours.

BMW has confirmed that the XM Label Red will be presented worldwide at the Shanghai International Automobile Exhibition, which takes place in the coming days. China is a key market for the XM Label Red, alongside the United States and the Middle East. Once presented, BMW will open its order books on 24 May, so in the days before that we will be able to learn the exact equipment and price of this new model.
