BMW Z4 Final Edition, the last dance for one of the last iconic roadsters we had left

Unfortunately, the BMW Z4 will leave the brand’s lineup in March 2026 with no replacement in sight, but before it bows out it does so with the special Final Edition

Autumn 2002 was the time chosen by BMW to debut and show the world the successor to the beautiful Z3. The bet was the Z4, following the principles and rules of its predecessor: a long bonnet and short tail, with a short driving position placed just ahead of the rear axle, with impressive torsional rigidity that raised the bar against the competition, and it was powerful enough that the Z4 M version inherited the very same straight-six engine with 340 CV that the M3 used.

The first generation stayed on the market for six years, specifically until 2008, when BMW presented the second generation of the Z4, combining classic proportions with cutting-edge engineering such as the brand-new two-section electro-hydraulic retractable hard top, as well as a considerably improved interior. BMW took ten years to renew the second-generation Z4, presenting the third in 2018 with purist solutions such as its interior design, its handling and the fabric soft top; its penultimate service was the Pure Edition special edition, in which the Z4 M40i with its six-cylinder engine and 340 CV was paired with a six-speed manual transmission.

The last service the iconic BMW Z4 will provide is the Final Edition special edition that we present today, an edition that will be on sale for a limited time and that promises to become a collector’s piece in a future that is surely not very distant, since everything points to the Z4 having no continuity beyond March 2026. Let us recall that the life of the Z4 has already been extended, partly due to the partnership with Toyota, who use the Z4 as the basis for their Supra, but BMW shows no signs that it will have a successor, or at least not in the configuration we know. Toyota, on the other hand, has said that the Supra will be briefly discontinued to make way for a completely new generation; we will see how that goes.

But in the meantime, let us enjoy what the BMW Z4 leaves us, and in particular the Final Edition special edition, for which the Frozen Matte Black paint has been chosen for its bodywork, a colour exclusive to this edition, which combines perfectly with the M Shadowline exterior trim in high-gloss black. Obviously we will be able to choose it in the rest of the available colours, and all of them will also be combined with the M brakes with bright red brake calipers.

This last colour will also be chosen to provide contrast in the interior with the stitching on the Vernasca leather used in areas such as the dashboard, centre console, door trims and the M sport seats, as well as on the M steering wheel which, in its case, is upholstered in Alcantara. Finally, the BMW Z4 Final Edition incorporates new door sill trims with engravings made for the occasion, which serve to enhance its exclusivity.

A positive point about the Z4 Final Edition is that it will be available with all three of its engines, namely the entry-level version of the range, the sDrive20i with 197 CV, followed by the sDrive30i with 258 CV and, finally, the M40i engine with 340 CV. All of them are paired with an eight-speed Steptronic Sport automatic transmission.

If you are one of those people who are interested in the BMW Z4 Final Edition, stay tuned, because the brand will only leave a short window of time to order this edition, at the end of next January.
