Chrysler will not use the dual-clutch gearbox from Fiat

Chrysler announces that it has suspended the adaptation of the six-speed automatic dual-clutch gearbox from Fiat for its own 200 Line models and the Dodge Avenger.

Among the many benefits that the technical collaboration with Fiat has brought to Chrysler, was the six-speed automatic gearbox, dual-clutch, developed jointly between Fiat, Magneti Marelli and BorgWarner. Its application to Chrysler models has been suspended by the American brand.

The aforementioned gearbox was going to be included in the Chrysler 200 and Dodge Avenger. However, the engineers were not convinced about the “perception and refinement” that this type of gearbox would convey to the North American customer; with this statement Chrysler brings to an end the adaptation stage of the Fiat gearbox, which will be replaced by “other future projects”.

Behind this veil of explanation, we can see that Chrysler is going to wait for the right moment and will prefer to use the nine-speed automatic gearbox that ZF is developing. And no wonder, since Chrysler is itself an active participant in the project.
