Dacia Bigster Concept: this is what the bigger brother of the Dacia Duster will look like

Dacia will enter the compact SUV segment with the new Dacia Bigster, which has already been presented as a prototype and will soon join the current range

Dacia confirms its future presence in the compact SUV category with the new Dacia Bigster concept. Take note of the name, because it will almost certainly be kept for the production version of this new model, with which the brand makes a major leap while staying true to its spirit of reliable cars and smart value for money.

Just as many of the features of a prototype will be, which undoubtedly confirms the progress in design, sophistication and quality that Dacia has already shown us with its new Dacia Sandero.

Bigster: a 4.6-metre SUV with combustion and hybrid engines

While the soon-to-arrive Dacia Spring takes on the role of entry-level model in the Dacia SUV range, and the brand’s first electric vehicle, the Bigster will be the flagship of Dacia. It measures 4.6 metres in length, so it sits squarely in the category where cars such as the new Hyundai Tucson, the Citroën C5 Aircross or the Volkswagen Tiguan compete. Although its battle will be a somewhat different one, fighting to carve out a space among the most affordable SUVs in this segment.

And here, in addition to the entry-level versions of the models mentioned, we have cars such as the SsangYong Korando. Against all of them, Dacia will keep wielding its usual weapons, emphasising robustness and versatility. But now with that touch of design that the brand was missing. Alejandro Mesonero-Romanos, the new Head of Design at Dacia, has a lot to do with that.

The Bigster boasts an adventurous spirit, but without superfluous elements. There is no chrome here, and no aluminium inserts. Dacia uses recycled plastics to give the Bigster that SUV look that can handle anything. And it promises an interior space that has nothing to envy from the best in the category.

The future of Dacia: more models, more competitiveness

The Bigster was unveiled at the presentation of the Group Renault new strategic plan, called Renaulution, where we also got a glimpse of the future reinterpretation of an iconic model such as the Renault 5.

In the case of Dacia, the creation of a Dacia-Lada business unit is announced, to increase efficiency and competitiveness. To do this, Dacia will make the fullest possible use of the Group’s modular CMF-B platform, on which the new Bigster will be based, among others. All within a platform reduction strategy across the Group that will allow Dacia and Lada to go from 4 platforms to 1, and from 18 bodies to 11.

The Bigster will be one of the 3 new models that Dacia has announced it will launch on the market by 2025.
