Ferrari 488 Challenge Evo: a beast only fit for the track

The new Ferrari 488 Challenge Evo was unveiled at the Mugello circuit to enhance the brilliant performance of the Challenge presented in 2017

The new Ferrari 488 Challenge Evo was presented during the Ferrari Finali Mondiali, held in a legendary setting for all the “tifosi”, the Mugello Circuit. Three years have already passed since the Ferrari 488 Challenge was unveiled at the Finali held in Daytona, a version specially created for the track based on the Ferrari 488 Pista.

The Italian brand is in full development mode, and recently we learned that Ferrari has filed a patent for a new, much more efficient V12, good news for all motoring enthusiasts.

The brand of the “cavallino rampante” has developed a new kit to further improve the performance and responsiveness of its supercar. The aim of the Evo pack is to maximise the synergy between the aerodynamic system and the electronic controls.

The Ferrari Styling Center has completely redesigned the front of the car to improve aerodynamic efficiency by up to 30% compared with the standard Challenge. We find a new split splitter that provides better stability to the front axle and also lets the powerful braking system breathe better thanks to its air intakes.

Beneath the mirrors we also find new aerodynamic add-ons whose function is to channel air towards the intercooler intakes. In addition, the rear has been widened to channel the airflow generated at the wheel arches and reduce turbulence. Below the rear wing there is a new air grille that increases downforce.

Ferrari 488 Challenge Evo (4)In addition, Pirelli has developed new tyres in sizes 275/675-19 at the front and 315/705-19 at the rear. The steering feel will be even purer thanks to the revision of the balance of both axles to reduce understeer.

Another of the novelties of the Ferrari 488 Challenge Evo is that the front downforce can be adjusted independently of the configuration chosen at the rear. The engineers of the Transalpine brand have also worked to reduce brake wear, so a new design has been created for the front discs and the size of the rear ones has been increased.

A cockpit for the most experienced drivers

In the cockpit we find a steering wheel in the purest Formula 1 style, something the brand had already used in the Ferrari 488 GTE. With this design, the brand has ensured that the driver will always have their hands exactly where they should be.

On this sophisticated wheel there are several buttons to configure different parameters of the car. With them, we can set, among other things, up to four different ABS intensities, two for dry and two for wet conditions.

This entire kit will be available to customers who want to buy it directly new or, alternatively, can be fitted to those customers who have already purchased a Ferrari 488 Challenge. Let us not forget that the model launched in 2017 already had a price of 550,000 euros, so we assume the difference with the new model will be at least 100,000 euros more.
