The Ferrari P80/C is the latest one-off built by the Italian marque

From Maranello, specifically from the brand’s testing and development track at Fiorano, this machine like no other is unveiled on the tarmac, because this Ferrari P80/C is a unique production that has no replica, not even among the competition models of Ferrari.

Behind it stands the Special Operations team, the department tasked with, quite literally, giving birth to exceptional requests from the company’s customers, for whom Ferrari is more than just a carmaker and, for Ferrari, these customers are more than mere owners of one of its cavallinos.

With the premise of bringing together the best of current Ferrari race car technology in a unique and exclusive vehicle built for track driving that could also be a worthy heir to such unrepeatable silhouettes as the competition prototypes like the Ferrari 330 P3 and P4, the Ferrari 250 LM, and the Dino 206 SP, alongside the specific demands of the customer and owner of the Ferrari P80/C, this project began exactly four years ago.

The Ferrari P80/C, the Ferrari race car that will never compete in a

Once all parties had given their approval, the racing version of the Ferrari 488 GTB, the Ferrari 488 GT3, was taken as the basis. From its structure, the shape was developed through a combination of efficiency and design, such that the Ferrari P80/C is a machine as extreme in its looks as it is in its dynamics.

Its sculpting is imposing; the aggression of a bonnet that merges into the front bumper is striking, as are the very slender A-pillars, whose rake appears set further back than on the base model. A nose flanked by two enormous side pontoons behind the doors that supply air to both the mechanics and the aerodynamics.

And, as the wind flows in its attempt to slow the Ferrari P80/C, we reach the rear, where a engine cover with sequential scales conceals a V8 block which, although it has not been described, should be that of the same Ferrari 488 GT3 or, at least, one derived from it. Therefore, once again, we find ourselves before a tribute from Ferrari to the V8 engine, though not as a production model. Beneath the rear assembly, a spectacular rear diffuser closes off this race prototype, worthy of entering any endurance event.

A track car capable of passing itself off as ready to race, so much so that it adopts solutions used in competition, yet it could also compete at concours d’elegance events; that is why, as a curiosity, the rear wing can be temporarily removed from the assembly.

The price of the Ferrari P80/C is unknown, nor has the owner’s name been disclosed; what is obvious is that this car has an incalculable value. Years of work, hours of modelling, days on track, litres of petrol… all to shave tenths of a second and centimetres off the tarmac of the circuits where this extraordinary Ferrari is seen.
