Ford applies an optional performance upgrade to the Focus ST

Let’s be honest, the power figures of the Ford Focus ST are not really impressive given its direct rivals, although the Focus RS is the most powerful alternative with a 2.3-litre turbo EcoBoost engine producing 350 CV, but the ST sits at a conservative 250 CV, allowing it to compete directly with the Golf GTI and lower-powered models, leaving the top of the range to the RS.

But if we look at what the market has to offer, we know there are hypercars with 1,200 CV and family estates that leave the factory with a whopping 560 CV (we’re talking about the Bugatti Veyron Super Sport and the Audi RS6 Avant, of course). Therefore, talking about 250 CV figures sounds a bit more “homespun” than it really is, so Ford has decided to offer an optional power increase for the Focus ST that brings it a little closer to the most powerful cars in the C segment.

The performance upgrade kit includes a Mountune induction kit, a high-flow intercooler, an mTune performance chip and a set of accessories for installation. All of this adds 25 CV and 35 Nm over the standard Focus ST figures, meaning it now produces 275 CV and 400 Nm of direct torque from its turbocharged 2.0-litre four-cylinder engine.

Meanwhile, the ECU has been recalibrated to offer a more aggressive mapping program and a faster throttle response. Ford says the performance upgrade components MP275 Focus ST have been designed to guarantee maximum reliability. In fact, the package is sold through Ford Performance and keeps the warranty period offered by the manufacturer. For now, this kit is available in the United States and we don’t know if it will reach other countries. It costs 1,900 dollars and the manufacturer recommends the use of premium gasoline to achieve these performance figures.
