Ford Focus Active X Vignale: the top of the range arrives

The Ford Focus Active X Vignale becomes the top-of-the-range version thanks to a combination of its adventurous styling with the most premium finishes

Vignale was a strategy by Ford under which it designated its most luxurious vehicle division, something like a successor to the Ghia of yesteryear. This trim has joined the rest of the trims the Ford Focus already offers: Titanium, ST-Line and Vignale. We already had the chance to test the Ford Focus 1.0 EcoBoost ST-Line a few months ago.

In addition, a year ago the brand launched the Ford Focus Active, the most adventurous variant of the fourth generation of its successful compact. So the time has come to merge the Vignale concept with the Active. In this way, the crossover styling blends with the most premium details of the highest trim level in the range, resulting in the ultimate expression of the Ford Focus.

Subtle styling differences

Externally, this version can be told apart from the rest of the range by a few details. We start with specific 17-inch alloy wheels, a new grille, new plastic cladding and a front lip in an aluminium-effect finish to accentuate the feeling of a very rugged model.

This will remain more of a visual impression, as it will probably not even be offered with all-wheel drive. Other distinctive elements of the Ford Focus Active X Vignale will be its roof and its mirror caps painted in black for an attractive contrast.

Ford Focus Active X VignaleFord knows that the attractive design it achieved with the fourth generation of the Ford Focus, launched last year, is one of the main purchase arguments for its customers. This is borne out by the fact that 40% of buyers of the brand’s compact choose it for its styling, while 20% choose it for the technologies available.

The Ford Focus Active X Vignale will come with a comprehensive standard equipment list

This version will be the top of the range, so inside we will find items such as leather seats or a steering wheel trimmed in the same material. In addition, its standard equipment will be genuinely complete, so we will find a digital instrument cluster, a Head-Up Display or active parking assist.

Furthermore, Ford will introduce a new powertrain with 48V Mild Hybrid technology across the Focus range, so the compact will be part of the 14 electrified models that the American brand plans to launch by the end of 2020. Among these launches, we have already seen the controversial Ford Mustang Mach-E.

The Focus family keeps growing, and at the start of the year the version with the most punch was launched: the long-awaited Ford Focus ST. It uses a 2.3-litre engine capable of delivering 285 CV, with which it can reach 100 km/h in 5.3 seconds.

It was also the Ford Focus that debuted the 2.0 EcoBlue engine producing 190 CV, which has become the most powerful diesel engine in the history of the American compact.
