Ford Mustang Mach-E California Special, a special edition inspired by the one launched at the end of the 60s
Ford unveils the California Special special edition for its electric Mustang Mach-E, which will be available to order next spring

It was the 1960s, and the Ford Mustang accounted for a large share of sales for the blue oval brand, especially at dealerships in California. That success was commemorated with a special edition, developed together with the dealers, which gave rise in 1968 to the Mustang California Special. Incidentally, only just over 4,000 units were built.
Today, as you know, Ford has applied the Mustang name to one of its new electric models in order to attract potential buyers, something many brands do nowadays. The current electric Mustang Mach-E has nothing in common with the original, neither in character, aura nor, of course, sales. But, like many other manufacturers, Ford has insisted on squeezing the nameplates of its most successful models into its current electric vehicles, and this is how the Mustang Mach-E California Special came about.

Luckily, Ford has not simply copied and pasted the 1960s Mustang California Special, giving the new Mustang Mach-E California Special a unique character with echoes of the past. To this end, the exterior features the Adriatic Blue color found on the pony in the front grille, framed by a dark anodized trim, and a graphic on the bonnet which, according to the brand, is inspired by the California coast. It also has 20-inch wheels in carbonised grey bearing the GT/CS logo printed in that same blue, which is also applied to the rest of the exterior badges on the bodywork.

The Ford Mustang Mach-E California Special is all about design, and the interior also has changes that set it apart from the standard version, such as Performance seats upholstered in Navy Pier ActiveX and Miko material with a blue and silver reflective stripe as contrast. The centre console and steering wheel are also trimmed in the same navy blue ActiveX, and the floor mats match the rest of the décor.
The Ford Mustang Mach-E California Special is based on the GT version, so in addition to these aesthetic changes it also comes with standard equipment that includes, among other things, the following:
- Heated leather-wrapped steering wheel
- Dual-zone automatic climate control
- Tinted glass
- Front seats with power adjustment and heating
- Power tailgate with hands-free function
- Traffic sign recognition
- Front and rear parking sensors
- Intelligent Adaptive Cruise Control with Stop & Go and Lane Centering
- Lane Keeping System with Blind Spot Assist
- Active Parking Assist 2.0
- Pre-collision Assist with Automatic Emergency Braking
- Infotainment system with 15.5-inch FullHD touchscreen
- B&O sound system with 10 speakers
- Hands-free tailgate
- 360º camera
- Ford Copilot 360º
- Brembo braking system
- MagneRide adaptive suspension
- Heat pump

In the GT version, the Ford Mustang Mach-E also uses two electric motors, one on each axle, delivering a total system output of 487 CV together with 860 Nm of torque, enabling it to accelerate to 100 km/h in 3.7 seconds. The system also includes the 88 kWh battery pack, which allows it to cover up to 500 kilometres on the WLTP test cycle, with a charging capacity of up to 150 kW that takes it from 10% to 80% in around 45 minutes.
Ford has confirmed that the Mustang Mach-E California Special will be available to order from next spring, so we will have to wait a few more months to learn its price in Spain.
