Full self-driving -supervised- is finally coming to Tesla's Cybertruck

For now, the self-driving capabilities of the manufacturer’s other models remain superior to those of the Cybertruck.

Almost a year after deliveries of the electric pickup from the North American manufacturer began in November 2023, Tesla has started to roll out its advanced driver-assistance system on this vehicle, known by its English name Full Self-Driving (FSD), for now under supervision. However, this update is not yet available to all Cybertruck owners, at least for the time being.

According to several posts on the Cybertruck Owners Club forum, only some customers have received a preliminary version of FSD through software update 2024.32.20, which includes the latest version of FSD (Supervised) 12.5.5. In this way, although Tesla had promised Cybertruck owners access to this system in September, it now seems that not all of them will be able to enjoy it.

Owners who have been lucky enough to try FSD on the Cybertruck have reported that the Actually Smart Summon feature (ASS), which allows the vehicle to be retrieved remotely without anyone behind the wheel, is not yet available, whereas it is on the manufacturer’s other models.

Does the Cybertruck’s FSD really work?

For now, the majority opinion among users places particular emphasis on how unpredictable the Cybertruck’s FSD still is, since, as they point out, it can handle a specific scenario correctly on many occasions, only to inexplicably get the next one wrong.

According to Tesla itself, FSD (Supervised) can automatically steer, brake and accelerate on motorways and city streets, stopping the vehicle at red lights and stop signs. However, despite its name, it is classified as a Level 2 system in the SAE levels of driving automation, which means the driver remains responsible for the behaviour of the vehicle. Tesla acknowledges precisely this on its own website, stating that “Autopilot is a driver assistance system that requires the full attention of the driver and in no case turns the vehicle into an autonomous one.”
