HGP manages to extract up to 450 CV of power from the Volkswagen Golf R
The new Volkswagen Golf R has already fallen for HGP-Turbo, a tuner that has managed to extract a whopping 450 CV from it.
A lot was said and speculated about the eighth-generation Volkswagen Golf R, a model that was supposed to arrive with the five-cylinder Audi. However, the German firm surprised us -or rather, it didn’t- with the well-known 2.0-litre four-cylinder engine, a unit that will be one of the last of the combustion engines, as the brand announced a few days ago with its proposal not to develop new engines. Nevertheless, this has not stopped HGP, a German tuner known for its radical creations, from squeezing out every last bit of sportiness from the Golf R.
HGP took advantage of the fact that the compact sports car features a very well-known engine to turn it into a true giant-killer. Let us remember that the Volkswagen Golf R 8 is already positioned as one of the fastest and most powerful in its segment, but that was not enough for the German tuner, which wanted to go several steps further.
Out of the box, the compact from Wolfsburg features a turbocharged 2.0-litre four-cylinder engine. This powerplant delivers 320 CV and 420 Nm of torque, figures that guarantee a 0 to 100 km/h sprint in 4.6 seconds and a top speed of 250 km/h. But HGP-Turbo, aware of the potential of this heart, wanted to wring out as much as possible from it.

With this premise, the tuner applied various modifications to the ECU and installed a higher-flow K&N air filter. With all of this, HGP-Turbo has managed to extract a whopping 450 CV and 565 Nm of torque, figures that required upgrades to the standard turbo in order to handle them properly. Of course, the clutch pressure of the DSG gearbox has also been modified, a crucial operation for everything to work properly.
Despite the increase in power, the German manufacturer has made no reference to the performance of the upgraded Golf R. However, given the figures it quotes for the standard car, we can be sure that the compact from Volkswagen manages to reduce the 0 to 100 km/h sprint to around four seconds, not to mention figures that already enter supercar territory. That said, HGP-Turbo has attached an image showing a top speed of 298 km/h.

If we want to enjoy this upgrade, we will need to pay 9,800 euros, a figure that does not sound too outlandish when we consider what we get in return.
