Hold on tight, the bends are coming! This is how the Drift Analyzer of the BMW M3 and BMW M4 works
The Drift Analyzer on the new BMW M3 and BMW M4 can analyse your slides and even score them. Do you dare?

The new BMW M3 and BMW M4 Competition are shaking up the segment: as well as featuring a completely new engine, they aim to improve performance over the previous models. One of the standout novelties is the Drift Analyzer.
As its name suggests, this system is able to analyse the slides a driver performs. The driver can only access the system if all the safety systems are switched off, so it is advisable to use it on a track. Hold on tight, the bends are coming! This is how the new BMW M3 slides! The system known as the Drift Analyzer measures a series of different parameters to give drivers a rating for their slide. It also measures the distance covered by the rear wheels, the sliding speed and, most importantly, the angle the car takes.

This is how the new BMW M3 drifts
The best slide has received 4.5 stars from the system. Nevertheless, the system in the new BMW M3 focuses much more on the slide angle than on the distance covered or the speed. The greater the angle, the better the score. It is worth noting that this new system will be greatly appreciated by many drivers.

We agree that this new system will not turn you into a professional, but it is a very interesting addition. In fact, the adjustments drivers can make have to do with the traction control. It has ten levels of traction, with 10 being the most intrusive and the one that exerts no control over the car.
Mike Renner, instructor at BMW, has explained that the aim is to start from ten and work down until the traction control can finally be switched off. At the same time, data such as angle, duration, number of slides, understeer and speed are displayed. The instructor for the Bavarian brand has pointed out that for an inexperienced driver, setting 4 is perfect, as it only intervenes just before the car is about to slide.

If setting 10 of the traction control is chosen, the highest rating is three stars. From 7 to 4, up to four stars can be obtained, and from 3 to 0, five stars can be achieved.
