Honda announces a second electric car for 2022 after the Honda e
The success of the Honda e and the need to have electrified models will drive the arrival of several new electrified models that will cover European demand

Honda is already producing the Honda e, the small urban electric car aimed at the European market and due to arrive next summer. But Honda’s plans go further, and its electric agenda is ready to bring many more electric mobility solutions to market sooner than expected. Its initial plan was that by 2025 all models would be electrified, but it will move up by three years, and in 2022 it will already have all its models with electrified solutions.
And also for that same year, 2022, a second fully electric car will be launched, reinforcing the Japanese brand’s offer in this regard. No further details are known, nor is it known what type of car this new model will be, or whether it will be an electric version of a model already on the market.

Four electrified models in 2022
Between 2021 and 2022, four electrified cars will be launched. One will be that second electric car, and the rest will be hybrid and plug-in hybrid versions. The Honda Civic will have a hybrid version, and a plug-in hybrid version is also expected. Due to the Civic’s small size, this would be one of the most efficient cars in plug-in hybrid mode for city use.
Another of the vehicles expected in Europe over the next year and the one after is a hybrid version of the HR-V SUV and a new version of the Jazz. In addition, several larger electric cars aimed at markets such as the United States and China will follow. This new platform will arrive in 2025, so these models will be delayed a little compared with the announced novelties.
The CEO of Honda, Takahiro Hachigo, wants to highlight hybrid cars, as he believes there will not be strong demand for pure electric cars. Nevertheless, with the entry into force of restrictions in European cities, it will be quite necessary to move forward with this type of vehicle. The second electric model from Honda is expected to be ready in a few months to meet that growing demand, so we will be watching for what they have to tell us.
The US market will continue without a fully electric Honda model. At least until the new platform being developed by Honda is ready. This will feature rear-wheel drive, greater range, something necessary to access the US market, and above all, a large size.
