Honda Civic Type R: the most powerful Civic is now on sale

The new Honda Civic Type R is now on sale in our market, with deliveries to customers who finalise their purchase now starting in January. A car that boasts being the fastest front-wheel-drive car in the world around a circuit such as Suzuka, and which will surely delight enthusiasts of driving. Because the fourth generation Civic Type R is one of the few cars that are increasingly capable of offering high performance and dynamic handling suitable for track driving… without neglecting the versatility and comfort required for everyday use.

Price and equipment of the new Honda Civic Type R

The price of the Civic Type R set for the Spanish market is 54,850 euros, to which must be added 800 euros for metallic paint, which is the only option available (compulsory, as it is not offered with solid paints); you can choose from five shades: white, red, blue, black and grey. Among other features, it comes with adaptive cruise control, LED headlights, adaptive suspension, digital instrumentation, red-finished brake calipers, triple exhaust outlets, rear spoiler, a multimedia system with a 9-inch touchscreen, an alarm and 19-inch alloy wheels with Michelin Pilot Sport 4 S tyres in 265/30 sizes.

The range of official accessories available to personalise and enhance the functionality of the Civic Type R includes several options. The red lighting pack, for example, features ambient lights in the front, in the door interior panels and in the centre console, as well as “Type R” projectors in red and white. The Cargo pack, meanwhile, consists of a boot floor tray with dividers to organise cargo. You can also choose Type R floor mats, carbon-fibre sill covers, a carbon-fibre rear spoiler or applications in the same material for the centre console, and even a bespoke cover to protect the bodywork.

Rivals of the Honda Civic Type R

Considering the characteristics of the Type R, with its 329 CV VTEC Turbo engine -the most powerful the brand has ever produced-, its six-speed manual gearbox and its clearly sporty approach, there are not many alternatives to the Japanese compact. At a very similar price we find three all-wheel-drive cars: the Audi S3 Sportback, the BMW M135i xDrive and the Volkswagen Golf R.

Less powerful, but also cheaper -from 43,000 euros- and no less sporty, the Hyundai i30 N is also worth keeping in mind, with front-wheel drive and a manual gearbox. Also with front-wheel drive, a price noticeably lower than the Honda -from 45,500 euros- and a magnificent balance between sporting performance and everyday versatility, we have the Cupra León VZ, with its 300 CV engine and the DSG dual-clutch gearbox.
