Honda e or Fiat 500e, which is better?

Which is better, the Honda e or the Fiat 500e? Although the electrified Italian has just arrived, it is very likely to put the electric member of the Honda family on the ropes.

As we have been experiencing in recent days, weeks and months, electrification is revolutionising the car industry, and everything suggests that manufacturers’ goal is to have a wide range of fully electric vehicles.

This means that all segments will have zero-emission models. In addition, some European countries will have a large offering of fully electric city cars, but today we are going to focus on the Honda e and the Fiat 500e.

Honda e or Fiat 500e, which is the better choice?

The Honda e came into our lives during the Frankfurt Motor Show of 2019 and from day one it won over the public, with 40,000 buyers already interested in getting behind the wheel of this fully electric model. So much so that the first units will reach customers over the summer of 2020.

For its part, the Fiat 500e has just been presented and, thanks to its very chic image, it may well become a bestseller. Both models are small and seat four people, although the Italian has a wheelbase 210 mm shorter than the Honda e. In addition, it has only two doors.

In terms of dimensions, the new Fiat 500e measures 3,610 mm in length, 1,690 mm in width and has a wheelbase of 2,320 mm, while the Honda e measures 3,895 mm in length, 1,752 mm in width, 1,512 mm in height and has a wheelbase of 2,530 mm.

Which of the two has more technology?

The Honda e has up to five screens spread across the upper part of the dashboard. In addition, the side ones work as rear-view mirrors. For its part, the new 500e has a 10.25-inch touchscreen.

Besides its five screens, the Honda e features a personal assistant and assistance systems such as acceleration control, pre-collision warning, automatic emergency braking and parking assist, among others. The Fiat 500e is the first model in its segment to feature level 2 autonomous driving technology. It also has adaptive cruise control and a lane-keeping assist with a front camera.

As for range, the Italian features an electric motor producing 116 CV, paired with a 42 kWh lithium-ion battery, and offers a WLTP range of 320 kilometres. It accelerates from 0 to 100 km/h in nine seconds.

The Honda e offers two powertrains: one with 136 CV and another with 154 CV. The latter reaches 100 km/h in eight seconds. It uses a 35.5 kWh battery that allows it to cover up to 222 kilometres.

It is also worth mentioning that the Honda is rear-wheel drive while the Fiat is front-wheel drive. Although it is still early to talk about prices, we can say that the Fiat 500e, in its launch version, has a price of 37,900 euros, while the Honda e has a starting price of 29,470 euros. The Advance trim will start at 32,470 euros. And you, which one do you prefer? For range, a very viable option is the Fiat 500e, but if your priority is price, you should opt for the Honda e.
