If you were looking for an even cheaper version of the Tesla Model 3, here it is.
For the time being, you will only be able to buy it if you live in Mexico, but it is not out of the question that we will see it in other markets before long.
The American manufacturer has been adjusting the prices of its electric vehicles over the last few years in order to reach a larger number of customers, as well as to make the company’s ultimate goal a reality, which is none other than speeding up the transition to electric mobility and the use of renewable energy, leaving fossil fuels behind.
In its eagerness to achieve this goal, Tesla has just launched, although for the time being only in Mexico, a more affordable version of the Model 3 that does without some elements in the interior of the vehicle in order to reduce costs. Although the company has not commented on this so far, it seems quite likely that if this model is successful in the Mexican market, we will end up seeing it in other markets in the more or less near future.
Don’t complicate your life
Tesla usually offers only two personalisation options for the interior of its vehicles, one with black vegan leather seats and another in white. Mexican customers interested in this new version of the Model 3, however, will have a much easier time configuring their vehicle. There are no options to choose from, the interior is unique and the seats are not leather in this case but fabric, in addition to other interior components having been removed.

The new rear screen introduced in the new generation of the Model 3 “Highland” has also been removed in this version. An omission that surely won’t matter to those who usually travel alone or, at most, as a couple. In addition, the steering wheel and seats have lost the ability to heat up in winter. In this last case, it is not clear, however, whether the components needed for it have been removed or whether it is merely a software limitation, allowing the user to have this function in the future by paying a monthly, annual or lifetime fee.
Another change in this new version affects the ambient lighting. Tesla introduced customisable ambient lighting in the most recent update of the Model 3, but in this more affordable model, this light is only white and cannot be customised. Another feature that might also be limited by software, like the heated seats and steering wheel.

Finally, the American manufacturer has reduced the amount of acoustic glass, limiting it only to the driver’s and front passenger’s windows, whereas in the standard version it is found in all the vehicle’s windows. This version should therefore be somewhat noisier when travelling at motorway speeds. Although this is something that may not bother the owners of this version too much, considering how much money they have saved on the purchase of the vehicle.
How much do I save, then?
Because, obviously, doing without all these elements in the interior of the vehicle comes at the cost of paying a lower price when buying the vehicle. In Mexico this version of the Model 3 is available for 749 thousand Mexican pesos, roughly 36 thousand euros at the current exchange rate. That is, 50 thousand pesos less than the higher version, roughly 2,400 euros less.

Suffice it to say that, otherwise, the vehicle is exactly the same in terms of technical specifications as the entry-level version sold in many markets with rear-wheel drive and LFP battery pack. Knowing this, would you be willing to give up these interior elements in exchange for a saving of around 2,400 euros?
We will be watching to see how this move turns out for Tesla.
