Is the FIAT Multipla coming back? The future of this eccentric car may lie in 2025

One of FIAT’s best-known models, not always for the right reasons, could return to the market, though it would lose its traditional design and become an SUV.

We all have in mind the eccentric FIAT Multipla. A vehicle that broke with tradition with its unusual design. Many have considered it one of the ugliest cars in history. This gave it a somewhat dubious reputation. Even so, it was on the market from 1998 until 2010. And mind you, it remained on sale in China for a few more years. That said, the second generation of the model lost that image which, for better or worse, gave it a touch of distinction.

The news is that the FIAT Multipla is returning to the market. It will do so in 2025, and no, it will not be the well-known people carrier. We already know that manufacturers have ruled out building this type of vehicle in Europe, and they are opting for SUVs. This will be the way the Multipla returns, seeking the place and the impact the original model never had.

But the arrival of the new Multipla will have a consequence: it will replace the FIAT Tipo. This model is set to disappear from the Italian brand’s range, and the new Multipla will take its place. This revived model is expected to keep its essence and be something different and original, although it will probably not be as controversial as its original incarnation.

It is expected to have rounded lines and to use a light signature made up of two headlights joined by a luminous strip. The electric version will have a closed grille, although other versions, with combustion engines, may have a different grille that lets air through to cool the engine.

It is expected to have low-displacement petrol engines, supported by a hybrid system. There is no information on this yet, so we will have to wait for the official presentation. What we do know is that there will be an electric version, which could have a range of up to 400 kilometres.

As for one of its main features, the new FIAT Multipla will have seven seats. It will lose the front bench with three seats and instead will have two seats in a third row. It will use Stellantis’s CMP platform, which allows this configuration.

We don’t know the price either, but they have already announced that the model to beat is the Dacia Duster, so the price could be set below that of the Romanian SUV. This is another detail we will not know until the model is officially presented.
