KIA surprises: this is what the EV8, the successor to the legendary Stinger, will look like

The Korean brand wants to surprise and plans to launch the KIA EV8 as a replacement for the KIA Stinger, with features well suited to a high-end model.

Kia Stinger 2022

The electric era is inexorably approaching, and the major brands are already moving full speed towards electric mobility without compromise. KIA is one of the brands that are preparing a solid lineup full of models with these characteristics, and little by little we are getting to know their proposals. The latest one we have learned about was offered by the company itself, and it was Korean Car Blog that gathered it and made it public. This means the data provided may not be exact, but if it is, it is something very interesting.

KIA has announced that the Stinger will have a fairly capable successor. It is the KIA EV8, and we know, for example, that it will be based on the new platform of the Hyunida group, called IMA (Integrated Modular Platform). This means the e-GMP platform, currently used by the EV6 and EV9 models and even the Hyundai Ioniq 5 and Ioniq 6, will be abandoned.

This platform will be the star of KIA’s new models and Hyundai, so it will take center stage from now on. Thanks to the use of the IMA, the future EV8 will be available in two versions, with one and two electric motors. In the first case, that electric motor will offer a power of 160 kW, equivalent to 218 CV.

For their part, the versions with four-wheel drive and two motors will reach 320 kW of power, that is, 435 CV. These two versions will be joined, provided the figures offered by the brand are accurate, by an even more powerful version. This more powerful variant would deliver up to 415 kW, equivalent to 612 CV.

The battery that will power these motors will have a capacity of 113.2 kWh. This battery will allow the model to reach a range of between 700 and 800 kilometers on a single charge. What is not yet known is the charging architecture the model will use. The e-GMP platform uses an 800-volt architecture, which allows it to charge at up to 240 kW. It could be that the IMA platform raises this architecture to 900 volts, which would favor charging.

If the information offered by Korean Car Blog is confirmed, production will begin in 2026, so we will not have to wait long to see more concrete details about KIA’s new model. For now, the images are of the KIA Stinger, the car that the KIA EV8 will replace, since there are not yet even conceptual images of the EV8.
